Adding a Custom Domain to Your Booklet Community

This guide will help you understand how to add a custom domain to your Booklet community.

Overview

Adding a custom domain to your Booklet community allows you to use any domain, such as hq.booklet.group, instead of a subdomain of bklt.app. The process to set up a custom domain is initiated in the settings page of your Booklet community.

Please note that only community admins have the permission to add a custom domain, and each community can only have one custom domain.

Adding a Custom Domain

Follow these steps to add a custom domain:

  1. Log in to your Booklet community as an admin.
  2. Navigate to the Settings page.
  3. In the settings page, find the section for adding a custom domain.
  4. Input the domain you want to use for your community, such as community.example.com. Using a subdomain like this is recommended over a root domain like example.com.
  5. Confirm the changes and save the settings.

Updating Your Domain’s DNS Settings

After adding your domain in the settings page, you will need to update your domain’s DNS settings.

Using a CNAME Record

Ideally, you should add your domain using a CNAME record. Use your subdomain as the record name and your Booklet subdomain (like my-community.bklt.app) as the record value. The specific address can be confirmed from the app settings page.

Using A and AAAA Records

If you cannot use a CNAME record, you can add an A record pointing to 137.66.55.154 and an AAAA record pointing to 2a09:8280:1::69:1b14.

Domain Verification and SSL Certificate

Once the above steps are completed, Booklet will verify the domain and issue an SSL certificate. This process takes about 24 hours and you will receive an email once it’s done.

During this period, your community will still work on your old domain. Once the new domain is live, your community will begin to operate on the new domain, with all links from the old domain automatically redirected to the new one. However, emails will still come from the bklt.app domain.

💡 Tip: If you are using Cloudflare, do not turn on Cloudflare protection until your domain is live.

Booklet will automatically renew and manage SSL certificates for your community.

Removing the Custom Domain

To stop using the custom domain, remove it on the Booklet settings page. Please note that you will have to handle the redirection of your custom domain back to the updated domain in order for links to continue to work.

We hope this guide helps you successfully add a custom domain to your Booklet community. If you encounter any issues during the process, please feel free to reach out to our support team for assistance.
